Welcome to Phoenix Middle School

Phoenix exists to facilitate students' opportunity to discover a deeper understanding of self and their relationship to the world in which they live. Phoenix is a community where students, parents, teachers, and community members are actively involved in teaching and learning from each other. The responsibility is shared for providing a stimulating environment in which all students are encouraged to reach their highest potential. We value self-direction, student choice, the relevance of curriculum, students being responsible for their learning, and the evaluation of their progress.

We strive to make students feel valued and a part of their school. Along with the Worthington Schools graded course of study, the program also includes:

  • Creative Start: classes in the arts and music for all students every day
  • Flexible block scheduling, allowing for integration across disciplines/curricula
  • Foundations: building basic skills in areas such as writing, technology, research skills, public speaking
  • Connections: a critical thinking course that includes service-learning and multidisciplinary projects
  • Learning Extensions: teacher-supervised time at the end of the school day is used to further develop and extend student learning, support concept mastery, complete homework, and provide time for extracurricular activities
  • Global Education
  • Mastery/Portfolio Assessment
  • Service learning connected to the curriculum
  • Student voice and student choice
  • Increased opportunity for student/teacher interaction
  • Phoenix Forum: weekly town hall meetings with the student body
  • Parent Forum
